Interesting results considering the winner (Mike Huckabee) of the poll is no longer in the race and at the start of the polling had no real shot at winning the nomination. The Republican nominee John McCain came in a distant third to Barack Obama who had a solid 29% of the vote. Hillary Clinton who is still a strong candidate for the Democratic nomination had very low numbers at 6%. What does this show? Very Little

I recently returned from the Anaheim ACSI convention. I am often torn by these conventions, Are they really worth the time and effort? As an educator and an exhibitor I wonder what people are getting from these functions. I have heard all kinds of speakers, some up lifting, some not so much. The bonding with my peers is something I always have enjoyed but is that what the convention is for? Many people want to be inspired so they can bring this new enthusaism back to the classroom. Others simply want a few days out of the classroom and maybe some candy from the various vendors. Opinions will vary but these conventions can be a time where faculty and staff can grow as a unit. These conventions can be used as a tool for real team building. Christian education will be at its strongest when we continue to build ourselves up as a team and as a great tool for Christ's ministry.

As the Co-founder of ChristianTeachingJobs.com I get to meet many teachers around the nation but the ones that have stirred my heart recently are the teachers in Pakistan. We have recently received an influx of resume from that part of the world due to the trouble  geo-political climate. The despiration in these teachers words are clear, they need to get  out of the country. Some have simply dropped us a note telling us they are Christians in a foreign land and asking us to pray for them.

May we pray for all the Christian teachers in Pakistan and ask for thier protection.

 

Here is my personal pain lately. Plagiarism is killing me. I have caught students off and on for years but last week plagiarism punched me in the stomach. Catching students cheating is nothing new but the hassle involved with each case seems to grow. The student who falls on the sword of ignorance or the parent who becomes Perry Mason as soon as they are called, which is worse? Doesn’t anyone realize this is just wrong? The invention of the internet did not give every student the freedom to cut and paste at will. There are things that are clearly wrong and this is one of them. It is theft. Not robbing the bank type of theft but theft none the less. To a teacher, plagiarism can be the worst type of theft, the stealing of ideas. Have students lost the ability to write an idea that is completely their own? Have they really thought about the ethics behind their actions? We as Christian educators should take a hard stance on this issue. It is not going away on its own.

On a recent trip to Sacramento I discovered an interesting problem. There is a growing amount of Christian international schools who are finding it increasingly more difficult to find qualified teachers who are willing to work at their schools overseas. One reason may be the geo-political climate of the world. There seems to be a real anxiety level about working abroad especially in conflict regions around the world. Another reason is financial, It seems to be more difficult to find teachers willing to raise their own support and more difficult to find teachers willing to do this for an extended period of time.

More job services are being used to assist these schools in recruitment and the internet has turned into a valuable tool. I have mentioned the flatness of the world and this comes into play in teacher recruitment.
